10 Year Jail Term For Man Who Raped And Falsely Imprisoned Woman

A 34-year-old Georgian national has been jailed for ten years for raping and falsely imprisoning a Polish woman in Kerry on her second night in the country.

Vasile Vardoshilli, with an address at Greenville Place in Cork City, was convicted in February of raping, falsely imprisoning and assaulting the now 25-year-old at an address in Killarney in August of 2004.

The court heard she met him when she first arrived in Cork; that he had driven her to the Kerry town and had promised her a job. Later that night he brought her back to an apartment and raped her.

Mr Justice Barry White, in sentencing the married father-of-three this afternoon, said he had taken advantage of a woman who, like the accused, had come to Ireland seeking employment.
