Comment On Launch Of Managed Clinical Network For Critical Care

Commenting on the launch by the DHSSPS of a Managed Clinical Network for Critical Care, Dr Peter Maguire, Deputy Chairman of the BMA’s Board of Science and consultant anaesthetist at Daisyhill Hospital, Newry, said:

“We very much welcome this announcement but it is only a start. Critical care in itself is very expensive, never mind a critical care network, and needs to be properly funded and adequately staffed. Such a network is essential to facilitate the rapid access to critical care services. We are talking about life and death situations here.”
