Nursing Homes Want HSE To Halt ‘Unfair’ Inspections

Nursing home owners are calling on the Health Service Executive to halt routine inspections of their premises pending improvements in the way standards are assessed.

The Federation of Irish Nursing Homes and the Irish Nursing Homes Organisation say the current process is not transparent and does not give proprietors enough time to respond before inspection reports are published.

They say they want an independent inspectorate instead of one controlled by the HSE. The HSE, however, has rejected the criticisms, saying patient safety is the priority of the inspection process.
