Skills for Care announce appointment of five new board members

Skills for Care has announced that five new members have joined their board adding extensive experience in the social care and health sectors.

The new board members are Sam Jones who is the lead executive at NHS England supporting the delivery of the New Care Models; Sue McMillan who has recently retired from the Deputy Chief Inspector role at the CQC; Munira Thobani, independent executive coach and Organisational Development consultant; Paul Snell CEO of Walsingham Support; and Paul Kingston who is a Professor of Ageing and Mental Health at the University of Chester.

They join as Professor Peter Beresford, Judith Salmon, Frank Ursell and Deborah McKenzie step down after completing their terms on the Skills for Care board.

Skills for Care Chair Dame Moira Gibb (pictured) said: “I want to put on record my thanks to Peter, Judith, Frank and Deborah who have all offered a huge amount of frontline experience, common sense and wise counsel. Their contribution has been invaluable in helping ensure the voices of 19,300 employers and 1.43 million workers in adult social care are heard.

“When we started looking for new board members I was impressed with the very high standard of applicants, but Sam Jones, Sue McMillan, Munira Thobani, Paul Snell and Paul Kingston bring exactly the right mix of skills and knowledge we were looking for.

“Each of them is a leader in their field which will help Skills for Care’s board consider how we make sure workforce issues are central to very live debate about the role of the adult social care workforce in delivering high quality care and support in our communities.”

The new board members will attend the next meeting on December 14 and will serve a three year term.
