Hounslow social worker struck off over safeguarding failure

Social worker Sean McEnaney has been struck off the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Register on grounds of misconduct after failing to adequately safeguard two children whilst employed by the London Borough of Hounslow.

A panel of the HCPC Conduct and Competence Committee heard that Mr McEnaney had previously been employed as a senior social worker on the Emergency Duty Team since 2006.

The panel further heard that between 1 July 2013 and 30 June 2014, Mr McEnaney failed to adequately safeguard two children following a disclosure which suggested that one of them may have been sexually abused. This led to his dismissal in June 2014.

Panel Chair Andrew Gell commented: “Mr McEnaney’s actions were serious and deliberate, involving sexual abuse issues in respect of vulnerable service users. There is a complete absence of insight and a real risk of recurrence. There was no evidence of ability or willingness on the part of Mr McEnaney to resolve matters.”

The Panel determined that the only proportionate and appropriate sanction was to strike the name of Sean Joseph McEnaney from the Register.

Mr McEnaney was not present or represented at the hearing.
