Northamptonshire launch care home improvement scheme

A new initiative aimed at improving the quality of older people’s care homes has been launched in Northamptonshire.

Called My Home Life, the scheme offers training and support to managers to improve the quality of care offered within their care homes, with a particular emphasis on ensuring older people with complex health needs have a voice, choice and control over their lives.

Northamptonshire County Council is funding the initiative locally with a first cohort of 32 care home managers and owners expected to complete the programme over 14 months.

A launch event was held at the start of April where care home managers and owners heard about the scheme and the benefits of signing up.

County council cabinet member for adult social care Councillor Suresh Patel said: “I was pleased to see so many care home representatives at the launch event of this very positive new initiative.

“Our aim in Northamptonshire is to support residents to remain in their own homes where possible, which is what people have told us they want. But when people do need to use residential and nursing homes, it is essential that the care delivered is high-quality, promotes good quality of life and provides a safe and healthy environment.

“The My Home Life initiative will help to achieve this, with care home owners and managers embarking on their own journey of quality improvement through learning and development.”
