Care home fees in Hampshire to rise by £730 a year

ELDERLY people will have to pay £730 more a year for a bed in a residential home under a series of savage cuts and price hikes unveiled by county council bosses.

Hampshire social services chiefs plan to slash £21m from their adult social care budget, including axing 165 jobs, with the frail, the elderly and people with learning difficulties set to bear the brunt.

The savage cuts were condemned by elderly people’s campaign groups and unions.

Southampton City Council is cutting £3.4m from its adult social care budget, including axing 47 jobs, but is not planning to increase any charges.
