Hookstead respite centre in Sussex is to close

A care home in East Sussex will no longer provide residential services for older people.

East Sussex County Council said it did not have the resources to keep open its respite centre at Hookstead near Crowborough.

Day services for older people will stay at Hookstead until a further report is presented to the council in January.

The authority said the centre was built in the 1970s and the bedrooms were not up to modern standards.

Councillor Bill Bentley, the lead member for adult social care, said the decision was not just about saving money.

He said: “It is about making sure that we give people more choice and control and that we are in a position to sustain a quality service for years to come.”
