Warwickshire council warns care costs may rise by £30m

Warwickshire County Council social care could be left £30m worse off due to government funding cuts, it claimed.

The council said it expected to lose about £30m from its £132m adult social care budget within the next four years.

It said it could not confirm the exact figure yet because it was waiting for a breakdown of government funding following last month’s Spending Review.

Warwickshire council said it may have to review its care eligibility criteria to make up the anticipated shortfall.

John Bolton, the council’s former interim director of adult social care, said: “We have to wait for the small print to come out to know exactly what it is going to look like for Warwickshire councils.

“But the early indications are that we are going to have a reduction in that £132m budget of about £30m.”
