Housing 21 wins contract for adult care in Barnet

A NEW home care service for adults with personal care needs is set to roll out from next Monday in Barnet. Housing 21 has been awarded a five-year contract by Barnet Council which aims to promote independence for these adults.

Under the new plans people with support needs will be assisted for six weeks to show them how to live as independently as possible, before their needs are reassessed on a long-term basis.

It is hoped the scheme will help cut costs by providing people with the skills to look after themselves.

Councillor Sachin Rajput, in charge of adult social services, said: “This contract is a great step forward for social care in the borough as it fits well with the bigger picture in personalising adult services.

“We want all of our residents to have all the skills and tools to live as independently as possible so they can stay in their homes and remain close to their friends and communities.”

Another new service will see people discharged from hospital given support from healthcare officials and co-ordinating with other support agencies.
