Care worker who abused dementia sufferers is convicted

A CARE worker who hit and verbally abused residents suffering from dementia at a Runcorn care home has been convicted.

Kerry Lesley Murphy, 27, who worked at St Luke’s Care Home on Palacefields Avenue, was found guilty on six charges of ill-treatment and neglect at Warrington Crown Court.

The jury heard how Murphy, of Westwood, Windmill Hill, showed ‘no respect or compassion’ for the people she should have been caring for.

DC Bob Scott – who investigated the case – said: “Kerry Murphy abused her position as a carer and exploited the vulnerabilities of the victims for her own ends.

“Her victims were defenceless all suffering from dementia, and not able to tell anyone fully what had happened.

“I hope now they can have some peace in their lives without being subjected to cruelty.”
