Barnardo’s appoints Anne Marie Carrie as next chief executive
Barnardo’s has appointed a council director of children’s services (DCS) as its next chief executive.
Anne Marie Carrie, who is currently deputy chief executive and executive director of family and children’s services at the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea, is to join in November.
She will spend the first two months in the post visiting Barnardo’s services before taking over from current chief executive Martin Narey, who is leaving in January next year.
Carrie is a former youth worker, community centre manager and drama teacher, and has also held senior roles with the Health Education Board for Scotland and Women’s Aid.
Her current roles include sitting on the National Task Force for Employment and chairing the Association of Directors of Children’s Services’ education committee.
She leaves Kensington & Chelsea after four years heading its family and children’s services.
Geoffrey Barnett, chair of Barnardo’s Council, said: “She has the experience and skills to ensure Barnardo’s continues to grow in size and influence, even in these difficult economic times.”
