General Social Care Council appoints three senior managers

The General Social Care Council (GSCC) has appointed three senior managers to oversee registration and conduct complaints, social work education and finance of the organisation.

The news follows the announcement of Penny Thompson as the new chief executive, earlier this month.

Michael Andrews, previously director of scrutiny and quality at the Council for Healthcare Regulatory Excellence, will take up the post of director of regulatory operations, overseeing social work registration, conduct complaints, investigations and legal services.

Sherry Malik, a qualified social worker and former head of children’s service in Hertfordshire, is joining the organisation as director of strategy and social work education. She leaves her post as corporate director of strategy at Cafcass.

Stephen Williams has been appointed as the director of corporate resources to oversee finance, HR and facilities management.

The directors will take up their roles in April and May.

Chief executive Thompson said: “Their wealth of experience will prove extremely valuable to the organisation and to the sector more widely, as it moves forward with the challenging programme of reform set out by the Social Work Taskforce.”

Chair of the council Rosie Varley added: “I’d like to take the opportunity to extend my deepest gratitude to our interim team who have worked enormously hard in putting GSCC on a firmer footing.”
