Elderly man arrested for death of elderly woman in UK care home

A ninety-two-year old woman has died in suspicious circumstances at a care home in Dartmouth, Devon, UK. Police have arrested an eighty-two-year old man in connection with her death.

Police were alerted to the death by ambulance crews who attended a call to Hyne Town House on Wednesday.

Ambulance staff attempted to resuscitate the woman but were unsuccessful. The ninety-two-year old had been resident at the home for five years.

Police arrested the eighty-two-year old man, also resident at the home, and are holding him in custody at a station in Torquay.

In a statement made by the owners of the home, Yvonne and Stephen Mould said that was an isolated incident had had a profound impact.

“Staff, residents and their families alike are deeply upset by what has happened. Our grief at the loss of one of our residents is immeasurable.” The couples statement said.

They also said that the dead woman’s son had their “deepest sympathy” and “sympathies also go out to the family of the gentleman concerned”.

Although details of the incident have not yet been released, Detective Superintendent Steve Carey, the investigating officer, said, “Enquiries are at a very early stage and we are keen to work with the home and the residents. This is an isolated incident and is not thought to involve any other resident or anyone else in connection with the residents’ home.”
