Isle social staff take to streets in allowance row

Isle of Wight social care staff gathered at County Hall this morning (Tuesday) in a protest over proposed changes to their car allowance scheme.

The changes are set to be implemented by the Isle of Wight Council imminently and some workers have threatened to stop using their cars altogether.

About 60 people marched from children’s services to County Hall, where they were joined by Mark Chiverton, Unison branch secretary.

They then marched to Newport Football Club.”We need to stick together and this is just the beginning of the fight for a successful conclusion,” said Mr Chiverton.
