Bogus social workers enter Gateshead home

A COUPLE posing as social workers today tricked their way into a house. Police have issued a warning to householders to check identification and call the relevant organisation if in any doubt.

The man and woman visited a house on the Leam Lane estate in Gateshead at 11am.

They told the occupants they were from social services and showed them false identity cards.

A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police said they were then invited inside and shown around the house before the occupants became suspicious and challenged them.

The pair then left, saying they would return at 2pm – but never did. Checks with social services and other agencies later proved they were bogus.

The man is described as white, in his mid 30’s, 6ft to 6ft 2ins tall, of medium build with dark brown hair and a tanned complexion. He was wearing a black suit jacket, light coloured shirt, black trousers and black shoes.

The woman was around 40-years-old, 5ft 7ins tall, of slim build with light blonde hair tied back. She wore a black suit jacket, black and white pin stripe blouse and black knee-length skirt.
