Thieving social worker struck off

A SOCIAL worker who virtually emptied a vulnerable woman’s bank account of thousands of pounds has been struck off.

Martha Wright, 33, stole £4,747 over a period of nine months from the woman, who had a mental incapacity.

The Trafford council health and disability team worker was convicted at Manchester crown court in 2007 of nine counts of obtaining money by deception and given a suspended prison sentence and community service.

Now she has been removed from the Social Care Register by the General Social Care Council.

The GSCC said Wright, from Manchester, had caused direct harm to a vulnerable woman who was left with virtually nothing in her bank account.
