Surrey County Council Opens Social Care Debate

Concern about the growing demand for adult social care in Surrey is to be the focus of a special Question Time debate hosted by Surrey County Council.

The debate on council tax spending takes place on 18 September at the University of Surrey in Guildford.

The council said it was proving to be such an issue that most of the places open to relevant groups had been taken.

Council leader Nick Skellett said the problem of who is going to pick up the bill for social care was critical.

“The problems caused by an ageing population, limited funding and, at the moment, soaring costs, will affect all of us in some way.”

The ticket-only debate and question-and-answer session will feature a panel made up of key public sector and adult social care organisations providing public services that are funded through residents’ council tax.
