Dozing Care Home Charge Nurse Cleared

A nurse has been cleared of sleeping on the job while in charge of dementia patients at a care home.

Olufunmilayo Olowu had been accused of dozing off during three consecutive night shifts at the Treetops Nursing Home in St Clements Road during May 2005.

But the Nursing and Midwifery Council on Thursday cleared the 50-year-old of the allegations after a tribunal found there was insufficient evidence to prove the case.

Tribunal chairman Laurence Peterken ruled that the only witness, Suzanne Young, did not do enough to prove Olowu was asleep and could have “prodded” her or spoken to her, but did neithe. When the nurse call system was used, Olowu, now living in Nottinghamshire, reacted immediately to help.
