Concerns Increase For Missing Psychiatric Patient

A PSYCHIATRIC patient escaped from her carers during a visit to a dentist in Bury. Police are now urging members of the public not to approach Carrie McCarten who, without her medication, could become violent.

Miss McCarten is receiving treatment at Alpha Hospital, formerly Florence Nightingale Hospital off Buller Street, Bury, and was being accompanied to a dental appointment in Bury at 12.30pm on Wednesday when she ran off. She has not been in contact with anyone since.

The 21-year-old is originally from the Everton area of Liverpool and police are currently carrying out enquiries in the area to ensure she is safe and well.

Staff at Alpha Hospital do not believe she had cash or a mobile phone with her and are becoming increasingly concerned for her welfare.

Without the appropriate medication, there is a concern Miss McCarten may become unwell. Without continued treatment, she may become violent and may cause harm to herself or others.

Miss McCarten is described as white, 5ft 8 ins tall and of a petite build. She has straight, brown hair, which was recently cut above shoulder length, and hazel-coloured eyes. She was last seen wearing blue denim shorts and a navy blue and white striped t-shirt with black sandals.

Police are urging Miss McCarten to contact them via 999. Anyone who knows of her whereabouts is asked not to approach her but alerted the police immediately.
