Somerset Mental Health Praised For ‘Professional Excellence’

Somerset’s mental health hospitals have received a ‘Kite Mark’ for professionalism and exceptional standards of care.

A Kite Mark means accreditation for professional excellence in the quality of care delivered to patients with severe mental health issues.

Bournemouth University conducted the process of accreditation through visits and presentations over the last 18 months. They are holding an awards ceremony today.

Somerset Partnership Trust, which manages the county’s mental health and learning disability service, has been accredited by the University for the quality of its services to inpatients in Yeovil, Wells and Taunton.

Andy Coles, Lead Specialist Mental Health Nurse, with Somerset Partnership Trust, said: “All staff has worked hard to achieve this accreditation and it means a lot to know that the standards we are now delivering to our inpatient clients, are amongst the best in the country.”

Two new members have been appointed to the Board of Somerset Partnership NHS and Social Care Trust.

Mr Tim Guernsey has been named new non-executive director, and Mr Barrie Crow is the new associate non-executive director. Both appointments will be for four years.
