Youth Held After Care Home Deaths In Leicester

A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the deaths of two residents at a nursing home in Leicester.

The youth was detained just before 2030 GMT following the discovery of the women’s bodies at the city’s Hayes Park Nursing Home.

A member of staff rang 999 after the bodies were found in a room at the home in Rowlatts Hill early on Wednesday.

Leicestershire Police said the suspect is local to the area.

An area around the home remains cordoned off and part of the building is also sealed as officers continue their investigation.

Det Supt Chris Thomas, who is leading the investigation, said: “This is a serious incident. There is a large cordon and we are carrying out a detailed examination at the home.

“Officers have [spoken] with members of staff and other residents at the home and we are piecing together the information we are being given to establish the last known movements of the victims.”

Results of post-mortem examinations of the women’s bodies have not been released.

A spokesman for the nursing home said staff and directors were co-operating fully with the investigation.

“The staff at the home have contacted relatives of residents to reassure them about the situation and to advise them that the home is operating as usual,” he said.

“The safety of our residents is our top priority and we will continue to fully co-operate with the police investigation.”

Neither of the victims have yet been formally named.
