The Future Of Care Is In Good Hands

It was an award triumph last week for the UK’s largest provider of learning solutions, Carter & Carter Group plc, whilst working in partnership with Barnsley Social Services and Age Concern Training. The three companies have teamed-up to deliver the ‘Future Carers’ health care programme a ground breaking scheme which is available to people from the Barnsley region.

‘Future Carers’ was announced Most Innovative and Effective Recruitment Initiative, at the recent Accolade awards – an award ceremony held by Skills for Care to recognise excellence in social care workforce development. The independent judging panel, made up of social care experts, were said to have been impressed by with how the ‘Future Carers’ programme helped “unemployed people from the Barnsley area develop a career in a caring profession” and indeed how it gave “support to employers in meeting their recruitment needs”.

The ‘Future Carers’ team also went on to win the ceremony most prestigious award of the evening, the Accolades Winners of Winners. The esteemed panel of judges chose ‘Future Carers’ based on its ability to “demonstrate successful implementation of Skills for Care’s national training strategy; the GSCC Codes of Practice; Investors in People standards; and the government’s National Training Awards scheme. Overall the winner will demonstrate excellence above and beyond that required winning any entry of the other accolades.

‘Future Carers’ is a programme that trains unemployed people who want to begin a career in the health care sector. A dedicated project team work with clients to support their development through the programme, addressing any barriers that they might face to securing employment at the end of the course. The team also help the clients to look for suitable employment in the following ways: holding Job Search sessions; advising the clients on CV writing, letter writing, interview techniques; searching local papers and the internet for jobs; and assisting with any application forms or information finding that may come in useful for the interviews.

Helen Richardson, Managing Director of Employability & Skills, Carter & Carter Group plc said: “I am delighted Carter & Carter is part of the award winning ‘Future Carers’ team. Donald Hoodless OBE, Skills for Care Chair said: “I’d like to offer my sincerest congratulations to all the winners who have worked so hard to improve social care services through a wide variety of innovative projects.  Their efforts demonstrate the kind of social care workforce development Skills for Care aims to encourage and they are a great example to others.”
