Charity Welcomes Trust Fund Investment

Leading fostering charity, the Fostering Network has welcomed the Government announcement to invest an extra £100 annually into Child Trust Funds for every child spending the full year in care but warned there is still more work to be done.

Robert Tapsfield, chief executive of the Fostering Network, said: “Children in care deserve the same support and opportunities to fulfil their potential as any other child. The plan outlined by the Government to invest an extra £100 annually into Child Trust Funds is welcome progress but there is still more work to be done.

“If we are to make a real difference to the lives of looked-after children additional funding is urgently needed. This is why we are calling on local authorities in England to demonstrate their commitment to being a good corporate parent and match the funding announced by the Government. We also want to see the Governments of Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland make a similar commitment.”
