Nation’s Largest Home Nears Completion

Workmen are putting the finishing touches to what will be the largest residential care home in the county – with some 148 beds. The modern Milton Court Care Centre, in Tunbridge Grove, Kents Hill, which is expected to employ 100 staff, is due to open its doors to new residents in mid November. Caroline Roberts, the general manager of the centre, said: “Both myself and Guy Horwood, the clinical manager, have managed homes and we have also regulated homes. So we have worked on both sides of the fence and we will have to put into practice what we have preached during the past four years.

The main home has 135 bedrooms and there is also an independent living annex which comprises 13 bedrooms with kitchenettes and en-suite bathrooms. Rooms vary between the smallest at 14sqm and the largest at 22sqm.

There is also a cafe, bar, cinema and shop on site with a modern air conditioning system which changes the air every half an hour.

Caroline added: “The Restful Homes Group which runs the centre is a family-owned business and already has four homes in Birmingham. It chose Milton Keynes because it is a growing city and it is building good quality homes with good quality furniture.”

The hotel-style nursing home is at present being plastered and decorated, and new staff are being recruited.

The centre has received a number of inquiries about places and will have vacancies when it opens.
