Staffordshire Protest Over Care Home Proposals
Dozens of people joined a protest in Staffordshire over plans to change the way day centres and care homes are run.
The county council has pledged that none of the 500 people in its care homes will be made homeless as a result of the closure proposals.
The protest in Cannock comes during the period of public consultation.
Solicitor Yvonne Hassack said it was wrong to remove centres that formed “the core of their self worth and self esteem” for many of the residents.
“It is wrong to evict old ladies from their homes,” said Ms Hossack.
The county council said it wanted more people to be cared for in their own homes or through the independent sector and its preferred option was to close all of its care homes.
