Bolton Care Workers Announce Strike

Care workers are to stage a 48-hour walk-out in a row over payments. More than 300 Unison members working with Bolton Council’s residential services unit, which looks after mentally ill or disabled people, are expected to go on strike from noon on Monday.

The dispute centres around the council’s plans to change the arrangements under which the care staff receive additional payments for “sleep-in” shifts at care homes.

Seventy-five per cent of union members voted in favour of industrial action.
