Two care workers arrested after alleged care home neglect images shared on social media

Two carers have been arrested after images showing apparent neglect in a care home were posted on social media.

The women were arrested on Monday on suspicion of ill treatment or wilful neglect by a care worker at the home in Barnsley.

Families of residents at the care home have been informed and the women have been suspended from work, South Yorkshire Police said.

A police spokesman said the women, who are both from Barnsley, have been released under investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Etheridge said: “Two carers have been arrested after images were circulated online showing apparent neglect in a Barnsley care home.

“The women, both from Barnsley, were arrested yesterday after police were alerted to the images posted on social media.

“An investigation is now under way and we are working closely with the care home as part of our inquiry.

“The women were arrested on suspicion of ill treatment or wilful neglect by a care worker and have now been released under investigation.

“Families of residents at the care home have been informed and are being kept up to date with progress.

“The nursing home have co-operated with South Yorkshire Police in relation to this and the workers have been suspended from work.

“Adult social care have been made aware and the CQC have been notified.”
