Police release CCTV of man sought after upskirting incident in Manchester

Police have released CCTV images after a teenage girl was a victim of upskirting at a rail station.

British Transport Police (BTP) said a man tried to take pictures under the skirt of a 15-year-old girl, who was wearing school uniform, at Manchester Piccadilly station on April 1.

A force spokesman said the man followed her around Sainsbury’s in the station at about 4.30pm and made multiple attempts to place his phone under her skirt, doing so while she was at the till.

He left the shop without purchasing anything and followed her around the station before boarding a train, the spokesman said.

The force appealed for a man pictured in CCTV images to come forward as officers believe he may have information which could help the investigation.

Upskirting became a specific criminal offence in England and Wales earlier this month following a high-profile campaign led by 27-year-old writer Gina Martin, who spent 18 months fighting to make the craze a specific offence after two men took a picture up her skirt at a festival in 2017.

Anyone who recognises the man should contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 1900027691.

Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
