Relative charged with murder of 79-year-old woman at nursing home

A man has been charged with the murder of a 79-year-old woman at a seaside nursing home.

June Knight suffered fatal injuries at Langley Lodge Nursing Home in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, and police were called at about 10pm on Monday.

Robert Knight, 52, will appear at Southend Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday charged with her murder, Essex Police said.

The force said the accused, of The Fairway, Leigh-on-Sea, is related to the deceased.

A post-mortem examination will take place this week.

The nursing home said it was “utterly shocked by what happened”.

Essex Police said officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the death, and would not provide further details on the nature of the relationship between the woman and the accused.
