Borders social work chief set to retire
Andrew Lowe, director of social work at Scottish Borders Council, is to retire.
Mr Lowe, who suffered a heart attack in March last year, said he has struggled to maintain health and fitness since, and that his decision was tinged with “great sadness” after nine years with the local authority.
He added: “I have had the privilege to lead a wonderful group of staff with whom I hope I have made a difference in the lives of many Borderers. It has also been my privilege to work with a great group of councillors and officers.
“I am confident that SBC will work hard to meet the coming challenges that are being faced by local authorities up and down the country, and emerge in good shape for the next era.”
SBC chief executive Tracey Logan commented: “In his time with the council, Andrew has made a massive contribution to Social Work at every level and his influence and contribution at a national level will, I hope, continue for a long time.
“He has been a key member of the Council’s corporate management team during the last nine years and has helped to transform and develop services both internally and more widely with our key partners.
“I would like to thank Andrew for all he has done and for the support he has given during his time with SBC and I wish him all the very best for the future.”
