Scottish organisation plans investigation of volunteer rights

Volunteer Development Scotland proposes a panel to collect evidence of mistreatment and abuse of volunteers.

The organisation, which represents volunteering organisations north of the border, is in talks about setting up a panel to collect evidence from volunteers who feel they have been mistreated during their voluntary work.

Earlier this month, Volunteering England published an interim report based on the results of its volunteer rights inquiry. The report said some volunteers claimed to have been verbally abused, bullied and ignored by staff at charities.

A spokeswoman for Volunteer Development Scotland said plans to set up an inquiry in Scotland were in the pipeline, but had not yet been approved by its trustees. She said she was unable to provide any further details about the plan.
