£8.5 mental health unit to be opened in Derry
There’s to be a major boost for mental heath care in the North West. An £8.5m hospital construction project is moving ahead in Co Londonderry with news that tenders from contractors are now being sought.
The project will involve the construction of a Mental Health Crisis Unit comprising a 30-bed acute admission facility, a 25-place acute day care facility, and a round-the-clock home treatment crisis team’s accommodation, as well as offices, roads, car parking and landscaping outdoor areas.
Tenders are now being sought by the local Western Health and Social Care Trust for the construction of a mental health facility to be built at Gransha Hospital, Clooney Road, in Londonderry.
It will be a large complex, with the total floor area approved in the plans equal to approximately 4,000 square metres.
The contract is due to start in January and is expected to last for 18 months, handled by Avanti Architects.
