Study Shows Benefit Of Dementia Care Setting
A new study shows that patients with dementia benefit from living in a customised environment rather than in a traditional hospital ward.
As part of the project, a 14-bed special dementia care unit was opened two years ago at Mount Carmel Hospital in Clonakilty in Cork, where existing wards were changed into bedrooms and living space.
Elizabeth Myers, the principal researcher, said the relocation had positive effects, with patients regaining former skills and having improved sleeping patterns.
