Social Work Assistant (Justice Social Work) (13/1289)
based at 122-124 Irish Street, Dumfries (and across the East of the region)
£31,215 – £33,300
Dumfries and Galloway Justice Social Work are seeking a Social Work Assistant to join our Early Interventions team; based at Dumfries but covering work across the East of the region.
This is an exciting opportunity for a driven individual to join our team as we continue to develop our approaches within Justice Social Work. While striving to create safer communities by helping reduce risk and harm, the successful candidate will be committed to promoting better outcomes for individuals that have committed an offence(s).
As well as assisting social workers in relation to their statutory duties, you will undertake a range of tasks to support individuals subject to a Community Payback Order (CPO). These include direct work to help address their risks and needs, case management responsibilities and joint working with other agencies.
The role will also see you take a lead in the delivery of Structured Deferred Sentences, Diversion from Prosecution, and Bail Supervision. Responsibilities within the Court setting is another regular feature of the job.
Good communication is crucial in all areas. This includes your contact with those on a CPO, as well as with colleagues and staff from other agencies. Writing skills are also critical as you communicate with others. This includes regular use of emails and letters, and the preparation of reports that are submitted to Court.
Given the various responsibilities, the ability to show initiative and work independently is essential, as is the ability to work as part of a team. As the role evolves in line with local needs and national policy, a willingness to learn and develop is also crucial.
A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.
This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
